Forza Horizon 6 Hit by Save-Wiping Bug as Playground Games Scrambles to Issue Fixes

Playground Games is actively investigating a serious bug in Forza Horizon 6 that is causing some players to lose their entire save game progress, forcing them to start over from scratch. The developer’s support team has issued guidance for both Xbox and PC players aimed at minimizing the risk of data loss while a permanent solution is developed.

Among the most notable recommendations is that Xbox Series X|S players should disable the Quick Resume feature for Forza Horizon 6. The support team also urges all players to ensure they are connected to the internet when exiting the game, to allow adequate time for cloud synchronization before powering off their device, and to avoid force-quitting during saving or gameplay. Those who play across multiple platforms — such as switching between console, PC, and cloud gaming — are advised to be especially careful and wait several minutes after closing the game to let saves sync properly.

On the PC side, Playground Games is directing players to verify that their Microsoft Gaming Services app is updated to version 37.114.10001.0 or higher, as PC-specific fixes are being deployed through that app. Players can check their version by navigating to system settings, searching for Gaming Services under installed apps, and viewing the version number in advanced options. If an update is needed, it can be triggered through the Microsoft Store’s downloads section.

The Forza Horizon 6 community has developed its own theory about what might be triggering the bug. Several players believe the issue is linked to specific vehicles recently made available in the game, including the 1993 Schuppan 962CR, the 2003 Ford F-150 SVT Lightning, the 1988 Lamborghini Countach LP5000QV, the 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air, and the 2020 Wuling Sunshine S Forza Edition. The informal community consensus is to avoid customizing these cars — including painting them, applying liveries, or sharing designs — until the issue is resolved, though some players report using them without any problems.

Playground Games is asking anyone who has already been affected by the save loss to open a support ticket on the official Forza Support website immediately, ideally on the same day the issue occurs. The team says this improves the chances of recovering a player’s progress by reverting their save profile to an earlier backup. Crucially, impacted players are warned not to launch new sessions or create additional saves until their case has been reviewed by support staff.

The bug is an unwelcome stumbling block for what has otherwise been a well-received entry in the long-running racing franchise. Players are advised to follow all of the developer’s precautionary steps closely until Playground Games confirms a comprehensive fix has been deployed.
