Pokémon Pokopia Sells 2.2 Million Copies in Four Days, Rocketing Up the All-Time Spin-Off Charts

Pokémon Pokopia, the cozy life-simulation spin-off that draws heavy inspiration from Animal Crossing, has proven to be a massive commercial hit for Nintendo and The Pokémon Company. The two companies announced that the Switch 2 exclusive moved 2.2 million units in just four days following its March 5 launch, instantly making it one of the fastest-selling Pokémon spin-offs in the franchise’s history.

According to an analysis by Serebii editor Joe Merrick, Pokopia has already climbed to twelfth place on the all-time best-selling Pokémon spin-off list, as reported by GameSpot. The game has surpassed titles like Pokkén Tournament, Pokémon Pinball: Ruby & Sapphire, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX, and is rapidly closing in on classics such as Pokémon Colosseum, the Pokémon Ranger series, and both Pokémon Snap entries. With sales still climbing, there is every reason to believe it could challenge the top of the chart, currently held by the original Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue and Red Rescue Team games at 5.85 million combined units.

Half of Pokopia’s initial sales haul came from Japan, where the game sold roughly one million copies during its opening weekend, as noted by Eurogamer. The strong performance has had a tangible effect on Nintendo’s finances, with the company’s stock price surging approximately 10% after the launch — a welcome reversal following months of downward pressure on shares.

Despite the impressive digital numbers, physical copies of Pokopia have been harder to come by in certain markets. Reports from the United Kingdom indicate that the game was significantly undersupplied at retail, with physical sales falling well short of what Pokémon Legends: Z-A achieved at launch. The apparent shortage even led to a temporary price spike on Amazon, where the game briefly jumped from its standard $70 price tag to $80 before returning to normal.

Critics have been just as enthusiastic as consumers. GameSpot awarded the game a 9 out of 10, calling it one of the best Pokémon spin-offs ever made, while Eurogamer gave it four out of five stars, praising it for capturing the spirit of the franchise’s past while carving out its own identity. The warm reception suggests Pokopia could enjoy strong legs in the weeks and months ahead as word of mouth continues to spread.

For Nintendo, the result validates the decision to pair a beloved franchise with a relaxed, community-building gameplay formula on its newest hardware. As supply chains catch up with demand, Pokopia’s final sales tally could land it among the very top tier of Pokémon spin-offs — a remarkable feat for a game that has been on shelves for less than a week.
